With every new location feeling as though it’s brimming with life and capturing a cathartic warmth, we have to say that the art of League of Enthusiastic Loserss is truly what sets it apart from other titles of its kind. With all of this contributing to a disconnect between the story and its overall impact, it felt that the game’s potential missed the mark where it easily could’ve hit.įortunately for what it lacks in its story delivery is almost made up for in its gorgeous hand-drawn styled art, capturing neutral colour palettes and whimsical depictions of life that sets a scene so beautiful you wish you could be in it - including our protagonist’s shared rugged but homey apartment. Occasional moments with music are sprinkled in, but they feel few and far between, leaving us wishing they had added just a little more - especially within the apartment that feels so quiet at all times. There are some subdued backing sound effects such as passing cars, tweeting birds and distant almost inaudible vocals as you wander the streets, but it still feels rather bare and empty when the characters lack footsteps or conversations are had in nearing silence. This perhaps wouldn’t be so bad if the soundscape itself was brimming with noises and music, however even that feels sparse and in need of a little more attention. The cute text bubbles are nice for every dialogue, but with a complete lack of voice acting or even murmuring to add a sense of words being spoken, the game only sees complete silence whilst you read along. Unfortunately as beautiful as League of Enthusiastic Loserss story is, we feel it falters in its delivery. Much of what League of Enthusiastic Losers wants to get across is the characters age and their lack of jobs as they seem to feel a little lost in the world and have yet to work things out, leaving it to be clear that this tale is one intended to uplift and reassure those who are also a little unsure of what they’re doing or where they’re headed that most people are also in the same boat. With a message of not having to be unhappy even if others deem you ‘losers’, the game’s slice-of-life story is heartfelt and touching, even if it only lasts around a half hour. With the main story arc revolving around their potential eviction, League of Enthusiastic Losers sees you attempting to make money through unusual methods whilst getting to know friends and neighbours along the way. Taking you through the journey of two best friends, Vitya and Volodya, League of Enthusiastic Losers explores their close-knit friendship living together in Moscow whilst also carrying the burden of real-world issues. This reflective tale is almost guaranteed to evoke a little emotion along the way, as you spend a half hour getting to know the warm characters it presents. Created by yookond, the adventure game League of Enthusiastic Losers is finally making an appearance on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, courtesy of RedDeer Games.
